A welcoming Christian community, united by the love of God.

Glencoe Union Church (GUC) is a community of generous welcome – one that embraces both intellect and soul, reflection and action, care for each other and care for the world. With open minds, hearts and hands, we find hope, a sense of belonging, and joy in a life of faith and service.

Located in the village of Glencoe, just north of Chicago, on the shore of Lake Michigan, GUC has been a part of community life since 1872. Our historic building has been the center of traditions that give life to our members and neighbors.

What’s a typical Sunday morning like?

You’ll encounter children, seniors and pretty much every age in between on Sundays at GUC. You’ll experience inspiring music, thought-provoking sermons and people worshipping a God who delights in us.

We don’t just gather for worship and then head out the door.

You’ll find we have many ways to get connected on Sundays and throughout the week – whether that’s through Adult Education, Children’s Sunday School, Youth Group, Choir, or through a number of small groups and opportunities to serve others.

We come from a variety of denominational backgrounds.

We are a church centered in the Protestant tradition but not confined to one denominational identity.  A congregation that doesn’t demand doctrinal conformity, instead we remain faithful to the center, encourage devotional practice, intellectual inquiry, and spiritual exploration.

Whatever your background, wherever you are on your faith journey, we want you to feel at home. And we’d love to have you join us.

A little history of our building.

Glencoe Union Church was one of the earliest buildings in the community, founded in 1872, here on Park Avenue. After the original church building burned down in 1910, in 1911, the building we are now in was constructed.

And for movie history buffs, the building was also featured in several scenes in the John Hughes film, “16 Candles.” In fact, this was where the wedding ceremony took place.
